Comments: | FRUIT RED. Prunus mexicana is PURPLE Fruit. Some growers will do a 30-60 day warm stratification prior to the cold treatment or Fall sowing. Sowing stratified seed into high temperature soils will induce a secondary dormancy which will inhibit seed germination. Soak seed in water for 48 hours and change every twelve hours prior to sowing or stratifying. The seed pit absorbs a material from the pulp which inhibits germination. This may be leached out by warm stratification, soaking in water or leaving in a cloth bag in running water for up to several weeks. Sowing the seed outside in late Summer will allow Mother Nature to do the stratification for you. This shrub plant produces edible plums. |
