Comments: |
Warm stratification to soften up the pericarp or seed coat may replace the need for pericarp scarification. The dried pericarp does not allow the entry of water so this must be broken down in order for stratification to begin. The pericarp is the round husk which surrounds the seed, which is inside. The seed itself as well may requires scarification to soften up a hard seed coat. Seed collected when the pericarp has not yet dried may not require a treatment to break down the pericarp or seed if it is sown or put into cold stratification at once. |
Germination info: |
Mechanical removal or scarification of the seed pericarp followed by 90 days cold moist stratification. Pericarp is the round outer husk which surrounds the seed inside. |
