Comments: |
Seed count ranges 2200-2300 /lb. Shells will begin to crack(open) in cold stratification when ready to germinate. Some growers will do a 30-60 day warm stratification prior to the cold treatment or Fall sowing. Sowing stratified seed into high temperature soils will induce a secondary dormancy which will inhibit seed germination. Soak seed in water for 48 hours and change every twelve hours prior to sowing or stratifying. The seed pits absorbs a material from the pulp which inhibits germination. This may be leached out by warm stratification, soaking in water or leaving in a cloth bag in running water for up to several weeks. Sowing the seed outside in late Summer will allow Mother Nature to do the stratification for you. |
