Comments: Do not over-dry. Seed shipped moist. Seed dried below 15% moisture will die. Edible fruit. Wild collected from non-yellow fruit. Seed can be stored with moist vermiculite after cleaning . Seed exposed to temperatures below 10 degrees F may be damaged and experience reduced germination %. Seedlings require shade the first year. Seed germination is slow and may take 2-3 months. Sub freezing soil temperatures killing the seeds may be the limiting factor for the Northern native range of this species. Flowers last for two weeks and are pollinated by flies.
Germination info: Seed requires 90-120 days cold moist stratification. We are told Temperature in sowing is very important. 90-95 deg F germinates in 1-2 weeks or less. 80-85 deg. F germ in 2-4 weeks; less than 75 Deg.
